Employs: 20 people
Who are they?
Mateo and Andy Kehler set out to build the local dairy economy in Vermont by creating a successful business model that could then be replicated by others. Already in love? Of course you are….and so are we.
These brothers learned the their trade working in the US Europe and South America with farmstead cheesemakers. Determined to help renew the dairy industry in Vermont, the Kehlers saw that they could create a network of dairy farmers and cheese makers in their small Vermont community, which would renew the industry and create jobs for the region. Recently the USDA has backed a loan of $930,000 for Jasper Hill Farms to support the current 20 jobs and add 14 new jobs.
Why does it matter?
Jasper Hill Farms is widely regarded as making some of the finest cheese available. They have achieved that prominence not just by being great cheesemakers, but by building a mission-driven organization that recognizes the importance of the environment and the community they work and live in.
These things may seem obvious but if you really think about it, how many businesses build themselves with the explicit goal of creating a path to success for others?
